Die Hard I Nakatomi Plaza

New York City Detective John McClane has just arrived in Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his wife. Unfortunatly, it is not going to be a Merry Christmas for everyone. A group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber is holding everyone in the Nakatomi Plaza building hostage. With no way of anyone getting in or out, it's up to McClane to stop them all. All 12!

Tough New York cop John McClane finds himself in a tight situation when an office building in Los Angeles is taken over by terrorists. Apart from himself, everyone else in the building - including his wife - is held at gunpoint while their captors spell out their demands. The F.B.I. are called in to survey the situation, but John McClane has other plans for the terrorists...

New York cop John McClane flies to Los Angeles on Christmas eve to spend the holidays with his family. He arrives at the Nakatomi corp. building for his wife's office party. International terrorists take over the building and hold every one as hostage to steel $600 million of bonds from the vaults of the building. Now its up to McCLane to face the terrorists and save his wife and the other hostages.

In the city of Los Angeles, a Christmas party is held on the 30th floor of the Nakatomi Plaza Hotel. While the party is going on, downstairs, a band of German terrorists arrive and take the entire building hostage including its employees and attempts a huge robbery. But the only one who eludes capture is New York City Cop John McClane who launches a one man war in an attempt to stop the terrorists and save all hostages including his wife Holly.

John McClane is a cop from New York City who is on his way to Los Angeles to see his kids and his wife Holly, who moved to LA because of a job at the Nakatomi Corporation. When he arrives at Nakatomi Plaza, he meets Holly's boss Joe Takagi and her co-worker Harry Ellis. He and Holly go into a private bathroom and get into an argument. When Holly leaves to give a speech, thirteen armed terrorists lead by Hans Gruber seize control of the building and take the occupants of the 30th floor, who are the only ones left in the building, hostage. Luckily, they missed John and he has to figure out how to save the hostages before the terrorists get their way.

Ubuntu 9.10 Telah Dirilis

Ubuntu 9.10 dengan nama kode Karmic Koala telah dirilis hari ini. Beberapa perbaikan dan penambahan fitur telah dilakukan. Boot screen yang lebih sedap dipandang mata dan beberapa wallpaper yang disediakan membuat Ubuntu 9.10 menjadi lebih cantik.

Ubuntu 9.10 juga telah mengganti aplikasi multi IM (Instant Messaging) dari Pidgin menjadi Empathy. Integrasi dengan Ubuntu One untuk penyimpanan data online dan Software Center yang menjadi gerbang untuk penambahan aplikasi-aplikasi lainnya makin memudahkan pengguna.

LONDON, 26 Oktober 2009 – Canonical hari ini mengumumkan peluncuran Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition, versi terbaru dari distribusi desktop Linux yang populer. Ubuntu 9.10 akan tersedia untuk didownload gratis pada Kamis, 29 Oktober 2009. Ubuntu 9.10 membawa perubahan yang besar dan kecil semua memiliki tujuan yang sama – untuk membuat Ubuntu sebagai sistem operasi paling user-friendly. Ubuntu 9.10 memiliki fitur yang didesain ulang, lebih cepat boot dan login, sebuah kerangka kerja audio diubah, dan meningkatkan konektivitas broadband 3G, yang semuanya berkontribusi pada pengalaman pengguna kelas satu.

Stop Windows from Wildly Accessing your Hard Disk


Many users have complained about Windows seizing up for up to a minute because of random, pointless disk activity. This is due to the way that windows is set to handle disk caching and virtual memory. Although windows instructs you to "let Windows handle disk cache settings" for best results, this obviously does not yield the best results.

Note that this is a complex issue, and is discussed in much greater detail in the Annoyances books.

Here's how to eliminate the random disk activity and improve system performance:


Part One: Virtual Memory

* Right click on My Computer, and select Properties.
* Click the Performance tab, and then click Virtual Memory
* Choose Let me specify my own virtual memory settings.
* If you want to choose a different drive for your swapfile, run Disk Defragmenter first.
* Specify the same value for the Minimum size and the Maximum size, so windows won't spend so much time resizing the file. A good size is roughly 2 1/2 times the amount of installed RAM (i.e. create a 40MB swapfile if you have 16MB of RAM).
* Press OK, and then OK again, and confirm that you want to restart your computer.


Part Two: Defragmenting the Swapfile

* Once you've set the swapfile size to be constant (see Part One), you won't have to worry about a fragmented (broken up) swapfile again.
* However, you'll need to defragment it at least once for it to remain that way in the future.
* If you have Norton Utilities, you'll be able to optimize the swapfile with Speedisk.
* Otherwise, if you want to take the time, you can defragment it manually:

* If you have more than one partition or hard disk in your system, defragment all drives first. Then, move the swapfile (using the configuration procedure in Part One above) to another drive, defragment the first one, and then move it back.
* Although it's also possible to disable the swapfile entirely while you defragment the drive (and then re-enable it so it will be recreated whole), it isn't advisable because windows may not start without a Swapfile.


Part Three: Virtual Cache (only if you have 16 megabytes of RAM or more)

* Open SYSTEM.INI for editing.
* Add the following two lines to the [vcache] section (add the section if it's not there):

MinFileCache=4096
MaxFileCache=4096

* These values, in kilobytes, regulate the size of the VCache, so you can stop it from filling up all available RAM and paging all loaded apps to disk. If you have more than 16 MB of RAM, then set the above values (both of them) to about 25% of the amount of installed RAM.


Part Four: RAM

* You may've thought we overlooked the obvious - add more RAM! The more memory you have, the less frequently windows will use your hard disk, and the better your system performance will be.
* Since windows isn't very efficient or compact (by any stretch of the imagination), you'll need to feed it as much memory as you can afford. 16 megabytes is the absolute minimum, but 32 is better. If you have the money, 64 or even 128 megabytes will litterally make windows fly.
